The New Year had at least one good start...Roy Cooper took the oath of office on January 1, and is now Governor of North Carolina! That said, Democrats need to reshape or rebuild so that Democrats make significant gains at election time, at all levels, in the years to come.
The National Democratic Party will be electing new leadership several weeks hence, and some of the people who have expressed interest in the position include: Representative Keith Ellison, out-going Labor Secretary Tom Perez, former Gov. Martin O'Malley, SC Party Chair Jaime Harrison, NH Party Chair Ray Buckley, and MO Sec'y of State Jason Kander.
In North Carolina, Patsy Keever is stepping down as NCDP Chair, and the current list of candidates to take the helm on February 11, include: former Commissioner of Insurance Wayne Goodwin, Janice Covington, Marshall Adame and Dick Crews. Who will unite the party under one banner, one message, that will motivate voters to vote Democrat and assure progress forward in the 21st century?
At the next gathering of the Northern Orange Democrats Breakfast Group, we will talk about party leadership at the national, state and county levels. Join the discussion and tell us what you have read, heard or seen.
