Penny Rich: Penny Rich is a small business owner (personal chef and caterer) and a proud living wage employer. She teaches cooking and healthy eating classes in local schools and is a food columnist for print, blog and broadcast media.
She was raised in the NYC metro area, and has degrees from Pratt Institute (BFA) and NYU (MA in communications). After serving on the Orange Water and Sewer Authority (OWASA) and Chapel Hill Town Council, she was elected to the Board of County Commissioners in 2012 and re-elected in 2016. She has served on numerous neighborhood, business, civic and governmental groups, including current ones with a focus on tourism, technology, solid waste, parks and crime prevention. She is an active member of the OCDP and the League of Women Voters.
She has two sons at UNC campuses and lives with her mother, Jacky Rich.
