VOTING FACT: Many voters are turned away from the polls because they do not know that they must request assistance when they encounter a physical barrier to voting or if they encounter a problem with their registration. By law, assistance can be provided only if it is requested.
ELECTION FACT: In 2000, nearly 4% fewer ballots were cast for president than for governor in Orange County. Why? Because many voters who marked a “Straight Party Ticket” thought a vote for president was included. It was not! Voting for president is separate from all other races.
