When to Register

Any person registering to vote for the first time in North Carolina, or making an address change, must do so 25 days before the election.

Registration books close 25 days before each election.

For a registration form, contact the Orange County Board of Elections.

Students can only register in one county, where they are from or where they attend school.

The Board of Elections website offers registration forms in English and Spanish.

The forms can be printed, completed and mailed or delivered.

When to Vote

Check back on this website for voting days. 

Polls are open 6:30 AM to 7:30 PM.

There will be early voting for Municipal Elections.

Absentee voting in North Carolina 

Absentee ballots can be requested by mail from theOrange County Board of Elections, at PO Box 220, Hillsborough, NC 27278 up to 7 days before an election. 

Registered voters wishing to vote by absentee ballot must submit a signed request through the mail (typed or written), to the Board of Elections no later than one week (7 days) prior to the election in which they wish to vote. 

Absentee ballots must be returned to the office from which they were requested by 5:00 p.m. on the day before the election, signed, witnessed, and sealed.
