Say No to Giving Partisan Officials Control Over Federal Grant Decisions!
We need your help. Please object to the Office of Management and Budget’s (OMB’s) proposed rule on grants would destroy American science by 11:59pm on July 13.
If allowed to take effect, OMB’s new rule would impose total partisan control over funding that affects virtually every aspect of life in America. Submit comments by July 13 and call or write your representatives!
The White House’s OMB, directed by Russel Vought (co-author of Project 2025), is central to Federal budgeting and rulemaking. OMB has proposed a sweeping new rule about Federal Grants that would seriously damage U.S. science and allow partisan considerations in grant determinations. This is a big deal – a big fraction of local budgets can come from Federal grants – helping to fund schools, libraries, affordable housing. The new proposed rule requires all grants (not just overall grant programs) to be reviewed by a political appointee, who can disallow it for any reason, with no appeal. Under the proposed rule, grant opportunities would no longer have to be made public. Grants would have to accord with the President’s policy objectives. So: no grants to study racial differences in risk factors or health outcomes, or money to help bridge the achievement gap (DEI!), no engineering research to make more efficient wind turbines or solar panels (Climate hoax!). No money for the Chapel Hill-Carrboro school district (too blue!). The public is allowed to submit comments on proposed rules, and agencies must respond to all of them. We have until 11:59 PM Eastern Time on July 13, 2026 to submit comments on this rule.
